Haven't purchased gas at a Long Island marina in years because I only purchased Diesel fuel. Do they sell Ethanol free Gas? Insane if they don't knowing it can be much more destructive to a boat than a car/lawnmower.
I checked a website that lists all the gas stations around NY that sell ethanol free gas. Practically every town upstate has a gas station that sells ethanol free gas and on Long Island there's a couple of stations. Needing ethanol free gas for my new Chinese Outboard Motor, I went out to Lindenhurst to buy from a station out there that was selling it. They had 1 old pump and the price was $6 for a half gallon . I asked the attendant if it was ethanol free and he said it's 100 percent Octane .
Almost Every Stewarts upstate sells Ethanol free gas.

I think north country bait and Tackle in St James does.

Not that I'm aware of, and the few stations that sell it on Long Island are selling race gas, as you discovered, for stupid money.
I don't think it's illegal to BYOG, but it is illegal for sellers to deliver it to a boat. However, for safety or self-interest reasons, most marinas don't allow it.

Safety my you know what, they just want to lock you in on buying from them or other overpriced gas docks. especially considering you shouldn't be paying for road use taxes...

It's not inherently bad, but there are a lot of variables. I think a big factor is turnover.
The guy I fish with most often is turning over his fuel about every two weeks. No issues.
OTOH, another friend uses his boat every couple of weeks and periodically has fuel system issues.
It also depends on your fuel system integrity. Anything that allows moisture into the fuel, tank corrosion, tired hoses, filler O-rings, etc. becomes more problematic with deathanol.

I'm not concerned using the ethanol gas in my main engine because I use 2 or 3 gallons a trip and I can just empty the 6 or 7 gallons remaining into my car after it sits for more a week or two. With the Chinese motor I ain't taking chances with the fuel.
