I see there is another one at rocky point high school in February. Don’t think any seminars though but patriotfishing and bob wilson involved (?). Two schools aren’t that close in miles either

I plan on going. But I'm getting back surgery on Feb 24th. So I don't know how I'll be feeling.

I do not think it is a show like Ward Melville. More like a Fishing Flea Market Event. Run by the students of Rocky Point H.S. Mentored by Bob Wilson.

Actually am selling off a lot of never used tackle again so i really just want seminars and raffles at wmhs. Missed it last year for oral surgery.

I just spoke with Bob Wilson yesterday and it looks like they should be announcing the speaker list by early Feb, maybe a bit sooner. I don't know the exact process on how they select the presenters, but I do believe they try to give folks who have the experience and skill to all have a fair shot from year to year.

He has promised me a spot on this year's agenda and if so, I plan to incorporate more information about Tides and the reference book Eldridge Tide Pilot. I believe that was your request Guy, correct?

I still remember Crazy Alberto telling me, tides are for boats to get in and out of areas with shallow water. (not an exact quote)). You are interested in Current.

Actually, understanding both Tides and current flow are important to being able to score consistently with all species. I will provide both some basics and a bit more detailed information in a classroom setting.

However, that is only the start of the learning curve. Once you are comfortable with the overall principles, it is still paramount to do your own "on the water" study for the areas you fish most frequently. Different land masses, underwater structure, wind speed, and direction, moon phase, stage of tide can all impact just how much current is present and from which direction it presents itself with on any given day.

Fishing is one of those areas where we are constantly learning and adapting to different conditions. Like most other activities in life, the more you know, the better the results!

I totally agree. It is a complete package to learn. Lets face it, when I was young (many....many years ago 🙂) fishing was like

"Hey Jack, want to fish tomorrow? Let meet at 10 AM. Jack would reply he was going drinking and we should make it at 11:30. No regard for wind, moon phase. We didn't even know we should worry about underwater structure (the row boats didn’t have electronics). We rent a boat from either Bills Boats near Bar Beach or Silly Lilly on the Moriches. Hey...Just ask the bait guy where to go no! But it got us out and got us fishing. Experience is a great teacher.

I am sure you will have a lot of sharpies at your seminar. But maybe show A day where conditions might not be good and then show a better scenario. I love if you use a real life scenario. Pich a day and area. Show the tide you can get on any site and them show information about Tides and the reference book Eldridge Tide Pilot.

I appreciate your feedback, Guy, and I will do the best I can with the very short amount of time I will have to cover this one subject. I can envision how to add some of the requests you have made.

However, it is also important to realize that I could easily spend my entire hour on the Tides and Currents alone and never get to the bulk of the content many others come to listen to; mainly tackle and techniques for the most popular species we target on the North Fork.

As I have done in the past, I am always happy to have more in depth discussions on a one-on-one basis with fellow anglers outside the confines of a classroom setting with defined time frames. Aside from my talk, I will be at the show all day, so you are welcome to join me either before or after my talk. We can also carry on the discussion via email, as we have done in the past. Finally, the very best way to grasp a lot of these techniques is to join me on a charter. Nothing better than gathering "on the job" experience!
