It’s that time of my life that I need some protection from Mother Nature and I will be selling my Center Console which has been very good to me. I looked at a 23 Steiger Chesapeake 2006 with a blown Motor . It comes with a trailer that probably needs new tires. It needs a very good cleaning, probably a wet sand to get it back . Needs new electronics as well. What would you think should be my max offer. I am curious if my offer is where it should be. He didn’t take it , so I know what he wants to get but I wont pay it.
just curious on another persons perspective

I would think anywhere in the neighborhood of 10K is fair as long as it doesn't need any fiberglass work

rebuild is out of the question ,the engine has 1,500 hours. That boat needs a 250 to be adequately powered IMO . The engine I would get is 30k
I offered 16k and he turned it down!!! 🤷♂️
I would be into that boat for about 54k and grant it , it would have a new engine but on an 18 year old boat. JD power has the value at 16k ish with a working motor 🤷♂️.

18yo boat first things I would looks at ( by a surveyor) is the stringers for moisture. Then the deck.
Then pressure test the fuel tank.
Everyone wants to extend the season but how many extra days are you actually fishing beyond what you would with a CC!
I fished into December with my old mako but I also had a.nice enclosure.

wow. I also have an older 22' boat that I repowered with a Yamaha 250, and I am very happy with that decision. you offered 16K-which I think is VERY generous. I am shocked that an offer like that was turned down but I guess the owner feels he can do better- good luck to him! I agree that a new motor is the way to go. good luck

Then the deck.I can’t give an exact number, but there were definitely a few days I lost this season due to the big fan in the sky being in the On position as much as it has been this year. Then there were the days that would have been a lot more comfortable and dry for the ride back if I had a pilothouse or maybe a walkaround w/enclosure. The blackfish season is very short as it is and we lose days due to the time of the year ,so I want to try and maximize my chances for fishable days in comfort. I will miss my CC in the summer though.

Walk away. I think you made a more than fair offer. As an example, my daughter fiancé found a 30 foot Proline. The guy used it one year and died. It sat for 20 years. He paid $16 or $18,000 for it. Yes, it needed tons of work. Just the boat needed a ton of wet sanding, then compound, then polishing compound then ceramic wax. I helped a bit, and its tough work. But the boat looks new. Everything needed attention. Electric, outboards motors, generator, etc. But he is now fishing, and the boat has to be worth $60,000. My point is good deals do come around if this one is not the right one.

you're correct about a pilothouse or an enclosure being appreciated during the fall fishing. like I said in an earlier post I have a 22'CC that is a very easy boat to fish but on the cold windy fall days I have a bigger boat with an enclosure that I use and the difference is notable. I stand by my opinion about a fair price- 10K- it sounds to me that you made a very generous offer that was turned down ???(shocking) I would look elsewhere. that 23'steiger happens to be a nice boat but you're well aware of the cost of making it yours (new motor/electronics/elbow grease/unforeseen costs) all add up to big $$$. there are other boats out there

I have a W/A with full enclosure and as of yesterday I am in the driveway and shrinkwrapped for the season!I would have to have a sea trial before making an offer and the owner seems reluctant to give me a ride 😂
Feel free to make me an offer 😎😎😎
