Think we'll have great Striper fishing this fall ?

Been on the ocean twice this summer as recently as 2 weeks ago and didn't see many bunker pods out of Jones Inlet. Have you seen a lot of bunker out there ? When did that great run last fall start ?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but EPIC south shore fall runs were usually fueled by sand eels, not bunker, at least in the "old days"...

Last year was not the perfect representation as I had the boat on the trailer, family issues, and lack of time but clearly remember still fishing bunker schools in early November. Although we caught a bunch of fish on jigs, so probably both baits around.

It's on fire off the Pencil and Fire Island Lighthouse in 60'. Today there were fish all over the surface swirling and splashing. Between me and my grandson we stopped counting after a dozen. I've been fishing the beach over the last two weeks and it's been good there too, but, nothing like today in the deeper water. If you get a chance, get out tomorrow. Weather wise, it should be spectacular.

When I have been able to get out, the ocean fishing has been spectacular. Sand eels?

Yes, sand eels. While fishing yesterday, sand eels were swimming by the boat. The bass are chowing down on them.
