Just when you think you have it all figured out, the fish Gods throw you a wicked curve ball! With yesterday’s nearly perfect conditions and an expert crew of Lep and George S. I expected a fun day of filling the box with plenty of tasty Sea Bass dinners. Boy, was I mistaken.

To keep it short, and not so sweet, we hit 6 of my favorite and normally productive Seas Bass drops along the CT shore, central Sound and north of Plum. All we could find was a fairly steady stream of shorts and only 2 keepers plus a handful of decent sized Scup.

Obviously a very frustrating day but I will not allow my own bruised ego to take me off my game. I am determined to spend this afternoon pouring over my charts and drop book to develop a more successful plan for tomorrow’s charter. Watch out fish, I have a big chip on my shoulder!!

Sounds like the same results for me this season Capt I just haven't been able to find them with any consistency.

I spoke with a lot of friends and good fisherman today trying to get a read on this most unusual situation. The general consensus is that since the Fluke bite on the north shore and east end is very poor, plus our Striper action is also slow right now, many anglers are putting a huge amount of pressure on the Sea Bass, especially since the bag limit just went to 6 pp.

In essence I do agree with you, Kevin, that once we get the first good shot of dropping water temperatures, the fishing will rebound. Heck I was still reading 71 degrees in the Sound yesterday!

I had a great day watching Pete relaxed and Mike stressing over the poor fishing. It was quite the show! The seas were fine, and the boat ran like a top.

And on top of that I made this Seabass Ceviche with the fillets that they so generously gave me.

Any trip with with capt Mike is a good trip. Monday we had nonstop action from start to finish. All the porgies you wanted and tons of sea bass, putting 9 in the box. Water temperature is definitely warm needs to cool off. Frank Sr , Frank jr , Jason, and myself had a workout with 10/12 OZ of lead and nonstop action the entire day. Thanks again Capt.
