Hangkai Chinese outboards

How can they still sell 2 stroke outboards in the US ? See plenty of them on Amazon and Ebay ? I'm thinking of getting a 12 HP Hangkai as a backup motor on my 25 foot Panga Boat. Was on the ocean a few weeks back and my motor went into limp mode and only allowed me to go 2 knots all the way back to the dock about 7 miles . Checked the thermostat and it looks like the mechanic didn't tighten the thermostat cover enough. Keeping my fingers crossed that was the reason . 12 HP for around $800 brand new, just for a backup , it'll just fit on the back of my narrow transom , it'll probably push my Panga 5 or 6 knots. I have a TowUSA membership , but I don't wanna be in the middle of an inlet waiting for a tow.

Have to be sure you can get service and parts for that...It's a copy of a Yamaha I heard, I'm calling up dealers in the area if they service those engines. Hangkai is the biggest Chinese brand out there. I'll probably just run it in a tub of fresh water from time to time and just have it on the back of my boat just in case. Maybe I'll use it 1 or 2 times on saltwater.

Forget the Chinese engine. Focus on your main engine! You need a new mechanic! Too many basic repairs done incorrectly.
If you get stuck, call your tow company.
