My buddie Wayne and I had an epic trip with Capt. Hugh Chancey, Chancey Charters.
We diamond jigged a ton of sea bass and porgies as we waited for the sun to set, then great bass action.
One didn't make it, and this 40+ fish 2024 Half Bass.jpg2024 Big Bass.jpglooks like someone took a nibble of its tail on the way up!

Nice trip!

I used to always do a charter or two out there during August for bass. Maybe next year.

Actually hooked up with a shark on the first drift. Chased it down twice, then decided to break it off rather than spend the whole night fighting it on bass gear.

How do you specifically target 28"-32" Bass?

Do you stop fishing because that particular day or night all the fish are over 40"?

Maybe a 6" eels would have been more appropriate for a slot sized bass. Keep those pesky 40lbers away!

Bass regulations have been scrambled for years, DEC is trying to tell us something… Fish in Trouble… same as climate change… try porgies… lol.

ought to be Bass fishing moratorium for 5 years, Eat That… cellfish…

Ecology vs. Economy.

Any benefit a moratorium would provide would be offset by the economic devastation it would cause.

To me, closing the spring fishery by starting the season later would seem to be a better compromise.
