Heard some areas in Suffolk got 12" rain last 24hrs!I got 10 inches, and for the first time in 40 years, my pool overflowed. In addition, a few houses in my neighborhood took a lot of water in a place I didn't know was possible! I didn't realize it rained that hard, and I was shocked to see all of the water when walking the dog this morning.

But I ask again, why so much effort to save an invasive species that has been known to wreck innumerable bass and walleye fisheries and isn't exactly tasty? If I were younger I would have been interested in helping people flooded out but to save carp ?

I can't find a direct statement from the DEC, but a few sources are stating this position.

What I'm wondering is where are all the ecos that want to bust you for having a fish that's a half-inch short or forgetting your SW registry receipt to stop the well-intentioned from spreading invasive species?
Job security in invasives maybe?
DEC warns rescuers not to relocate fish from pond disaster in Stony Brook
"The fish remaining in the remnants of Mill Pond are an invasive carp species," reads a statement from the department sent to Greater Long Island.

View attachment 83804Did they "save" a single non-invasive species ? Did they ruin another pond by putting the destructive carp they did "save" into it ?

maybe they can salvage some of the native species from the pond that they just dumped the destructive carp in! I don't know if the retired DEC guy is on this website, but he might know if the act of doing that with an invasive species is a criminal act. Idiots.
