No Bass in 'da hood yet. However, I'm seriously concerned about the local osprey population. In 15 seasons here I've only had an osprey momentarily hover over my popper maybe 4 times and one time one hovered for a long while, making me wonder if there was actually a bass looking at it, the object of the bird's attention. Turns out I was correct at that time, as a second after my hypothesis was proved correct, as a bass did crash the plug...

Well this morning, the seemingly invincibility of the osprey's visual acuity was totally destroyed, as one came crashing down, actually grabbed my plug and flew off with it. It wasn't until I pulled back that he realized it wasn't a suitable dinner and dropped the plug. Now I'd like to think it must be my exquisite lure presentation that fooled this seemingly perfect avian fisher, but reality dictates that I consider alternate, more reasonable options such as a genetic defect or somebody had gotten into THC-laced edibles...

They dive on plugs often here on the south shore.
One just got impaled with a hook in jersey.
It was safely released.

I had an Osprey pick up a live lined bunker, but only gulls grabbing my plugs.

was fishing off a charter in Mantauk a number of years back for bass - we were using bunker chunks off the bottom - line got hit - fought for awhile then the line went slack - hauled up my bunker to see if it was stilll there - it was then & had a seagull hit the bunker swallowing it & my rig - the bird was hooked - remember yelling out "what's the limit on sea gulls" as it was flying back & forth with me hooked into the bird - lasted a few minutes & the mate cut the line
