Bottom paint

How long does bottom paint last? When I got my current boat 5 years ago the guy had the bottom painted a month prior and really didn't use it again. I trailer it. Visually the bottom paint looks great. No growth or anything. I always hosed it off with fresh water after each use.

Next season I'm going to get a slip. Should I put new paint on the bottom or would the current paint be good for the season? Or would it just be prudent to blast old off and put new on?

Agreed. If the current paint is still intact without seeing any of your bottom, you may want to find out what he used as it seems to have lasted well. The more "hard" paints can be very expensive, as they are the paint of choice of the racing rag sailors because they often sand after painting for that "baby smooth", go fast, bottom.

OTOH, really ablative paints usually do the best job of keeping crap off, but they are soft and may flake away in spots when you haul out by the end of the season. They tend to be much less expensive.
