I ran a full day Sea Bass charter today for custom rod builder “extraordinaire” Al G. and his 3 buddies in beautiful conditions.

I had done a little prospecting yesterday on my own in preparation for this trip and was quite surprised to have a tough time finding only 4 keepers on my normally solid drops. Perhaps it was the overwhelming presence of Porgy life on each of my stops yesterday.

So, I made a few calls and got a tip on a spot a little deeper into the Sound than I usually work. It turned out to be just the right formula for today’s success. We arrived on the scene for the last hour of the ebb tide and found a slow pick of mostly short fish, a few Scup, and one or two keeper biscuits. But once the flood tide took hold the Sea Bass really put on the feed bag with multiple hook ups on many of the passes. Most of the damage was done in about a 2-hour period with 27 beautiful keepers finding the box to 3.5#. Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to take any photos today as with the wind vs. tide situation I was stuck at the helm stemming to keep the guys directly over the pile of fish. Needless to say, the crew all went home with nice full bags of fresh Sea Bass filets!

Getting really close to the Tog opener and I only have a couple of weekend dates left for this season. A few more weekdays are still available but if you have your heart set on some fine North Fork
Tog action it would be wise to call me soon.

Thanks again for a fabulous trip Mike. Everything ached the next morning, especially my shoulder having to constantly crank up fish and 12 ounces of lead for 120 feet. I'm just getting old I guess.

Yes Al, but it's a good kind of ache!

Don't worry, we will be fishing considerably shallower drops for Tog next month and hopefully on tide cycles that will allow for a lot smaller sinkers!🙂

Hey Al!

I heard you killed it on that trip! You really are an inspiration to us all!

All the best,

George

Hi George,

I became an octogenarian this year and really beginning to feel it. However, I am eagerly waiting for the opening of the tog season. It's my favorite time of year.

Best,

Al

Age is just a state of mind...at least that's what most of us senior citizens keep telling ourselves!🙂

The next challenge for you, Al, is to catch a Tog older than yourself, in fish years of course!!!
