Didn't exactly know where to post this question so I chose here. While fishing on a party boat if you are fortunate enough to be in the pool and catch the largest fish what percentage of your winnings are the mates expecting. I believe there is no exact amount written in stone but I'm also pretty sure they are expecting some of that winnings. Not that they don't deserve it, I understand how hard they work to make the fares day enjoyable. Just never understood what percentage would make the mates feel appreciated. Thank you for your guidance and wisdom.

Last week I won the pool $95. I gave the kid $20 from it. Plus I had already tipped him when I payed my fare.(I like to get that out of the way early)
It was a quick 4 hour trip. First time winning a pool, so I stuck with the 20%.

Sounds more than fair to me, Matt.

I usually give 30%. If I have a relationship with the crew, I give half.

I used to work on Party boats when I was younger. Some customers which we had good relationships with would give us the pool. A lot of people would give us nothing. If I had to assign a number what I would have liked, 20% would be fair in addition to normal fish cutting etc that would have been received independent of the pool win.

If the deckhands are dicks, then obviously you would act accordingly. Also I worked full day groundfish trips but percentages can carry to other types as trips as far as I am concerned.
