Took advantage of the weather, went through the Shinnecock Canal, & headed for the DEC Artificial 12 mile reef off Shinnecock, which is actually about 15 miles from the inlet. Arrived to find it unfishable due to over a dozen buoys which looked like lobster trawls set across the structure. Very disappointing, in the past that area has given up some large sea bass & trigger fish. Headed for a wreck about 3 miles inshore of the reef, to find another boat set up on the piece shark fishing. Time to head back to the beach, ran a couple miles East & West of the inlet looking for bunker, & found none. Nice day for a boat ride.

I thought the same and that the reefs were exclusively for recreation use only and no pots commercial or recreational? Not sure if that applies in Federal waters. The 12 mile reef is 15 Miles from the inlet, I think that's in Federal waters.
An ECO checked me & the boat last week, gave me his card, I' call him tomorrow.

It's great you made the call. These regs are so complicated that few people know what's legal and what's not.
