Has anyone ever tried this reel or know anything about it? I'm looking to replace my Abu Garcia Revo Winch 3. The Okuma comes n at 7.3:1 where as the Abu is 5.4:1. Weight is only an oz difference. Drag is 25lbs on the Abu and 20 on the Okuma. I only use it for fluke and it would be paired on the Black Hole Charter Special.

Not for me. Too fast of a ratio. I'd recommend going with a Revo Winch, Revo X WInch, or my personal favorite the Daiwa Tatula 150P. All have ratios in the 5:1 range. When used for pulling bottom fish, mo' slower is mo' better.

Be careful of the new version Revo x . Think it’s a carbon frame now . No bueno. If you can find a gen 4 thought it’s a great bang for the buck

LiTugboat is correct, I was not aware that Abu cheaped out on this new version of the Revo X Winch. Graphite frames are to be avoided for what we do. What they offer in corrosion resistance they steal in rigidity. Any frame flex at all and the drive gears will micro-misalign, causing faster tooth wear-outs and that "geary" feeling when retrieve anything of consequence. Probably fine for FW bass, not so good for pulling big fluke straight up from depth.

I second looking for a NIB Gen4 Revo Winch, if you can find it for the right price. If not, the Gen5 is even nicer. My own Gen4 has been flawless for a ton of trips. Still smooth, drag still powerful and perfect.

Despite all that, I still prefer my Tatula 150Ps - just that much smoother to use.

Some of my frontline fluke reels. All are obviously umm, heavily "enhanced." The two Tatulas are on the left, the Gen4 Revo Winch is right rear, and my best fluke reel, My Daiwa Catalina TW100P 4.9:1 retrieve is right front.

My Catalina 4.9. Those that took my advice several years ago and scooped up these reels during The Tackle Trap's ridiculous close-out deal really scored on these beauties. I wish I had bought two at that price. Eh, my loss. Anyway, it sits on my best all-around ocean jigging rod, my cork-gripped Palmarius Slow Pitch in the #3 power. I cannot get enough of that setup! This is NOT an inexpensive rod/reel combination, but if you purchase wisely (close-out pricing on the reel) and the Palmarius "Show Special" pricing at one of the shows at which owner Dan Harley displays, you can buy such an outfit at a substantial savings. And then smile every time you stick a nice fluke with it.

I was one of the lucky folks that jumped on that special deal for the Catalina. Lep is correct in singing the praises of these super smooth reels.
However, mine is even nicer since I replaced those "pink accents"!!!🤣

I don't think the pink would go well with the BH charter special colors! 😁😆😅

Of course not! A pink (or red) trimmed reel clashes with our BH Charter Special's guide wrap's light blue trim. It is an unforgivable "fishing fashion" choice! Naah. What he really "needs" is a reel like this to make it a proper match. 🙄

My sky-blue trimmed Daiwa OG Zillion Coastal with the rare 4.9:1 gear set transplanted inside. It's been riding on my own BH Charter Special for many seasons. Geez, if you're gonna do it right, do it right already! 😛

OK OK. I settled on the Tatula. Guess I need to get on Ali Express and start looking for blue accent pieces to go along with my BH Charter Special rod 😁

Now that's a handsome reel!! Even matches my boat's logo colors.

But with the base cost, not to mention all the super Lep modifications, it is getting too rich for my blood!😀

NICE Reel! Wonder where you heard about it? 😉

If you can, break it down and give it a full preventative lubing. Both Daiwa and Shimano reels not made in Japan ship with very little factory lubrication. At the very least, remove the right side plate screws and hit them with some reel grease before screwing them back into the reel. This will prevent the galvanic corrosion that ends up locking the stainless or chrome on brass screws into the aluminum frame.

And post up the first DD you pull on it!
