PowerPro for conventionals, but doesn't cut it for spinning reels. I use Sufix Advantage 832 on those.

So, on the 10 foot surf rod and VS 250 I have the original Fireline in 30lb test. Always casts great, manageable in the wind, very few wind knots if any. Fished in and around rocks and was always able to drag the fish out. Bridge pilings, docks, you name it. It survived. Plugs worked fine, live eels too.

Strange when I dropped down to the VS 150, it came with 20lb base power pro. Never had an issue, casted fine, no wind knots but never abused it like the Fireline.

Other rods for fluke, blackfish etc. I have been using the Diawa J8 and all has been good.

And on the bait surf rod, which carries an Ambassadeur 7000 C3, I was never able to switch to braid. Always stayed with Ande 30 mono.

Now you are making me think. Is it 832 on the 150?

I think I have that on a few of the smaller bay fluke spinning rods.

832 on the Clash 4000, 30 lb test, not for the strength but its diameter is similar to 8 lb Stren, just about the thinnest stuff these old, fat fingers can tie a knot in while fish are breaking around me...

PP on the conventionals...

832 is on the 150 and the other fluke spinners. I guess I purged the Power Pro.

briefly, my first braid 25 years ago was Power Pro, honestly the shitt just melted… it was said the manufacturer had a bad batch, as i wasn’t the only one who had the problem… so i was always cautious bout buying braided at triple the cost over mono… cellie…

@wader How do you like fireline compared to power pro or sufix when it comes to tying it to a mono leader

Interesting question. I have never tied directly to mono, only to a swivel and then to mono.

Never needed for a surf application. I know some guys tied direct, but that was from mono to lure. Always wanted an oversized swivel to grab when landing a fish.

I've never tried Power Pro or Sufix. Around the time I went to braid on all my reels there were stories of Power Pro breaking so I stayed away from it. Tried the Fireline first. Was happy with it & stayed with it.

It doesn't succumb to UV exposure like mono, BUT it does wear out with constant use. I have to cut off a good 20' every month because I fish lures just about every day. Bait fishers get better mileage...
