We were blessed with a beautiful morning of bright sunshine, light winds and comfortable tides. I anchored the boat on one of my favorite Porgy drops in the Peconic’s and never turned the motor on again until it was time to leave due to a full boat limit of large, tasty Scup. The fish were super aggressive jumping on the baited hooks even before I got the chum pot down! In less than 2.5 hours we had the 180 fish needed to fill the limit with many fish in the 2.5-3.5# range. Double and even triple headers were common this morning! It was a steady diet of fat, healthy Porgies with only a handful of birds and some puffers as a by catch.
Not only will the crew be feeding themselves, family members, and neighbors but they are determined to come back next week to add another load of fresh fish to their respective freezers. If you are a Porgy fan it rarely gets any better than this.
