Happy New Year Everyone! I’ve been reading about the Old Inlet Breach that opened up under tragic circumstances (Sandy) and was wondering here if anyone who fished Great South Bay when it was opened noticed any big differences with respect to water quality and fishing. Thanks.

Absolutely.. water was cleaner. Moriches inlet to FI inlet is such a long stretch that the water never really got a chance to flush itself out that great.

Some fantastic fishing in that area. Water was crystal clear. Flushed the bay. A shame it closed.

Not only did the water clear up but there was a huge growth spurt in the clams. The clams have growth rings like trees and it was very easy to see the difference. Also we have been seeing a resurgence of scallops if you know where to look.
