This was one hell of a fight! 42-inch amberjack. We had everything from Goliath grouper to every snapper specie you could think of and a few nice red grouper to round it out.
One of those great days on the water.

Awesome fish, George!
About 50 years ago my Dad and I were on a charter out of Ft. Lauderdale and I battled an Amberjack that weighed in just under 60#, easily the toughest battle I ever had short of a Tuna. As I mentioned to you the other day they are like the largest Bluefish you ever caught on mega doses of STEROIDS!!!

We ran 31 miles to get to 60 feet of water. Luckily we were on a rocket ship with 3 350's and the sea were perfect.Never will get used to Gulf of Mexico depths vs distance offshore as opposed to Gulf of Maine. Casting from a rock ledge here will easily get a person into >70' of water...

View attachment 59315Always a fan of fish stories, and a little embellishing. Is that 300 the kicker to the trip 350's. Haha. Just kidding George.
