I'd like to see a group of anglers buy a used Party Boat and run it themselves

Has it ever been done ? 50 guys with no boat could get together and purchase a used party boat . They contribute $10,000 upfront and then they just pay for the fuel, bait, maintanence, insurance. Every weekend they'd go out fishing. Can't recall it being done in the recent past, but feel free to find 50 guys who would buy into this plan WITHOUT a real estimation of yearly maintenance costs. I'd hazard a guess that dock fees, along with the boatyard fees including engine maintenance/repair, fall haul out, winterization, winter storage, and spring commissioning tacked onto the insurance and fuel, would exceed the total dollars that even the most dedicated Party Boat Regular would spend in a single season.
Additionally, it would probably be a Herculean Task to find 50 anglers who can afford a $10,000 ante, a significant yearly outlay, and would agree on all aspects of the management of such a venture. MAZEL TOV!!

10,000 IS ONE HUNDRED TRIPS ON A PARTY BOAT right now.
This proposal would not work. Plus you still need a captain and mates

Chevy's son might give some insight on how that goes...That's the first thing that came to mind when reading the original post, but that's small scale compared to this proposal. @Chevy1 d is there an update available to your son's experience?
Non-boat owners have no idea of the validity of:
BOAT - A hole in the water that you pour money into and:
B*O*A*T(*T, *T*T, *T*T*T*T*T*T*T*T*T): Break Out Another Thousand, Two Thousand, Three Thousand or even Ten Thousand.
Besides the normal yearly expenses for me, this year was a BOATT event, when that engine hour meter hits 1,000 hrs there's work to be done. No matter, just less the kids will get when I go to the great rip in the sky...

It's a pretty amusing proposal considering the problems that arise with one partner let alone 50!LIKE THAT THING CALLED THE FUSTERCLUCK we used to do?
The only way it MIGHT work is if its set up as a limited partnership: 50 guys invest. 1 guy calls the shots.

I can’t even get my 6 of my friends to show up for a charter because of weather, sickness, kids, hammer toe, Hershey squirts, dog ate my homework, etc etc etc.
Let alone 50 to buy a share in a boat.
Not to mention you’re gonna have 50 guys thinking their money is more important than the rest.
Bad enough you have guys that go on out party boats and charter boats that tell the crew & Captain where to go just for their fare ?
But I say go for it Pangaroo and pass the jiffy pop

Agree with all of the above. If they're not going to the trouble and expense of owning a boat already, they're not going for a partnership in a grand headache that something the size of a party boat is.
I guess you could play a fractional ownership type of thing like they do with corporate jets, but you'd need a lot more than 50 people to make it palatable. There's a reason people are willing to fish on a pay-per-trip basis instead of renting or chartering a boat.

Just ask Cany how much of a pain in the ass it is to get all 30 guys to pay 100 for a blackfish charter.

Think of all the great fishing trips you could go on with a bigger boat. There would be a Captain and 50 limited partners, they could charter the boat out during the week to cover all the expenses and then on the weekend they'd go out for free. Each guy has a share he can sell anytime if he wants to leave.

Each guy has a share he can sell anytime if he wants to leave. The cynic in me says you have 2 chances, slim and none, and unless you've gotten some PMs, there hasn't been anyone around here who have expressed interest in this. You love to tell us about the joys of your panga, espousing the low cost, easy maintenance, and ability to get you anywhere you'd like to fish. What is possessing you for this ill-conceived venture?
BTW for most of us, the advantages of the "bigger boat" you talk about is meaningless. You won't be taking a party boat out to the Canyon, so it really doesn't add any new fishing territory to the menu. Additionally, now you're talking about a paid Captain and crew, and doing private charters, jacking up your insurance, additional safety equipment, Coast Guard Inspections, and tax costs.
Time to get @TonySmjc or one of his learned colleagues in on this to give their perspective and their estimation of what the "Farcical Fifty" would have to pony up for an initial investment, along with yearly operating costs. I'd hazard a guess that the cost would convince anyone even dreaming about such a venture to go ahead and buy their own boat.
Hey go for it, and keep us posted on your progress for our amusement. Just make sure that you approach a broadcast company for a reality show contract.
