Fishing Hook Sizes 101

Something else to keep in mind and make you crazy……. There is no industry standard as to what are the measurements to any certain size hook………. meaning, as an example a 7/0 hook made by one manufacturer can be a different actual 7/0 size hook made by another manufacturer. They are however usually close.

I will not buy hooks online that I have not seen before with my own two eyes.

More than the size, hook quality can vary greatly. I've broken many a Chinese gammi knockoff and bent many genuine Gammi hooks. Hook point bends too easily. Never bent an Owner.

Also those 3X and 4X strength hooks are overkill for me. That's why smart people invented drag...........

I’ve bent a lot of Gamakatsu’s as well, and in situations where I feel that can happen I switch to Owner’s as well. Never had a problem with them.
