Gulp Trick

Here's another trick to get a bit more life out of a 6" Grub that has had the tail bitten off. Take the grub body to the cutting board and cut it length-wise, so to make a pair of 4" "flat grubs." I use those on the rear stinger hook of my bucktails, along with a 5" or so piece of fish belly or tough squid. Works like a charm, and stops the angst involved in throwing away that grub body. Now you get three baits out of one.

I used to do the same and still do if I need bait when the Gulp has finally been punished to a point that it is unusable but I found something I like better. I take my bit off Gulp and cut it square at a meaty part. I then insert a spinner blade. I found this to be very enticing for many types of fish. I use this as an interim before the Gulp gets cut up for other uses.

I've tried many types of spinners. The Colorado blade works best for me. "It's a Humdinger" #3 and I get them from Tackle Warehouse. The nickel, gold and white come 5/pack. The green comes 3/pack. They are about $3.50 a pack.

The action is very nice and many different types of fish gobble them up. I also use skirts at times and it's a very nice presentation.

It also works fantastic with big grubs.
