Gave the Scup drop a couple of hours and once the chum got going the bite was nice and steady. First Porgy of the year was this nice fat 16" specimen and as time went on several 17-18" fish also found the box. By the time the tide reached near full it was literally drop and stick action. Kept a half dozen of the nicest fish for the table and released a good 25-30 more.
Next moved east to Noyac Bay to see if any early Weakfish could be found. I hit several of the drifts that were quite consistent for me last year and marked fish I am convinced were Weakies on each one, but I could not get anything to bite my squid and bucktail offerings. I am sure this fishery will light up soon.
Finished the day with a couple of hours on the ebb by the Greenlawns and also off Claudios hoping for an early Fluke. Unfortunately with water temps still in the upper 40's all I could seem to find were the ever present birds. While I am sure some Fluke will be caught in my area pretty soon, I think we need another 7-10 days for anything consistent to begin on that front.
So, for a solo prospecting trip I was happy to score at least 2 of the 4 target species and enjoy a beautiful day on the water. Boat ran great too which is always a big plus! My first charters begin on May 9 and then it will be off to the races!!
