How is the price of gas going to affect your boating?

ZERO, and I even insist on putting ethanol free gas in her, so we're talking high test here, but it will hurt.

Gas $$ last year was just under $900 for 180 hours of engine time, averaging 4 MPG.

I was looking to get a little bigger boat this year, I wanted to spend more time on the water, not just fishing but day trips with my wife or run to Rhode Island and spend the week/weekend something along those lines, but now it doesn't look like I will, maybe next year, hopefully things will get back to almost normal, my older brother who lives up in central square NY was going to buy a new outboard for his pontoon boat but decided to wait one more year, they wanted 15k to install a new F115 yamaha on his craft, that's ridiculous.

I used to own a boat but not anymore. Sold it in 2015. Me and my dad go fishing on party boats and unless by some miracle gas prices go down the captains will have to raise there fares to cover the cost of rising gas prices. With gas near 5 dollars on the land can only imagine what it is on the water.

My sons and I used to do that years ago, got tired of the crowds and being at the mercy of the captain and his choices of fishing spots.
That's why we bought a boat, now with grandkids who are now entering adulthood the boat is just to small for 4 people.
I wanted to step up to something in the 30 to 33 foot range , no cc's I'm too old for that and like the comfort of a nice cabin to get in out of the foul weather.
If I do go out it will be in my 85' 25 foot aquasport, I trailer my boat but projected gas prices to exceed 5$ a gallon which by the way has already reached California @ 5.19 a gallon for regular will probably keep me off the water this year.

Used the boat all of 3 times last summer, the kayak 40+, so not much impact foreseen YET. My round trip to the town boat ramp is under 3/4 mile and I COULD walk the yak there with the dolly. Now when regular gets to $10. a gallon I could start being "fussy" on fall surfcasting. Taking lunch and staying longer, etc. I was wondering whether the people that resumed working at the office will start to take the LIRR again ( ? )

I discussed this last week with my brother, more drinking at the dock on snotty days, really targeting my spots based on past years success/ lack of sucess with less moving from spot to spot, slowing down, tune-up of engines and put an effort into more bay fishing instead of ocean fishing without cursing others out. Lastly, pray that the Tuna come in a little more east and north also LOL

If it wasn't for this crappy weather (like today), I be pulling the tarp off and filling up now before gas prices go higher.
It is what it is. I'm still going to fish. Letting my boat sit under a tarp all season doesn't make sense to me. Unused boats don't age well. So, I guess I won't be changing that much. But a tank may cost $200 or more. Again, lucky I trailer and can get pump gas.

I used just 18 gallons last year, 19 gallons in 2020. The third or fourth final "trip" each year was made so that I could replace half the tank with new gas when I top it off. (I really should sell the boat, lol.)

Taking her to the yard this coming week for bottom painting in an appropriate weather window, but they all think I'm crazy around here. I certainly wouldn't argue with that...

Heck with them. What are they going to do instead? (Although once the winter flounder disappeared and tautog limits for my bay fishing got ridiculous I only started up for a May fluke season

Stopped at the pump saturday after the LI Boat show. When I hit the 10 gal. mark and saw $43.90, that's when it kinda sunk in. I could say how I'm going to limit how and where I go with the boat but I'm thinking once your out chances are you'll go and do what your used to prices be damned. I might say that this year I could become even more familiar with the bay since I didn't have solid luck ocean fluking last season. May be spend more time perusing those shallow water spots at night searching for Mr. LInesides. What ever I decide I'm tired of looking at that cover on my boat, it's about that time. ;-)

It's not going to affect my boating/fishing. As i usually burn 45 gals. on a trip that just won't be happening. I will launch it with a For Sale sign attached. UGH.
