Great South Bay School Project

I'm a senior at Stony Brook University and I'm doing a project on fishing and the fish population in the Great South Bay. My questions are, what species used to live in the Great South Bay, but has gone extinct or permanently migrated elsewhere? What are the ramifications of this fish not being in the bay anymore? I would need to speak to someone that can remember being out in the Great South Bay when these fish were still present. Thanks to anyone that answers.

Take your pick. Striped Bass are way down. Bluefish are way down. Winter Flounder are practically non existant and Weakfish used to be fairly common years ago aren't anymore. I don't like regs more than the next guy but we have proved time and time again we cannot police ourselves.

The problem is there is a lot less of them moving around.

Would any of you be willing to speak over the phone about this? It would be a relatively brief conversation about some of the fish that are declining/extinct from the bay and the impact it's having on the bay.Sure. Shoot me a message and we can try to coordindate a day/time to chat.
