Bay Fishing

Fished a creek a bit further east earlier tonight. Managed 4 bluefish cookie cutter like the one attached. 1 oz blue super strike popper but fished real slow. More of a swimming retrieve vs the really fast popping retrieve. 3 that way and later one on a yellow mag darter. They were not smashing it as there was very little splash when they took it. And they were on the middle hook. Real finicky. Where are those spring bluefish that retired a couple plugs early on! Anyway, had quite a few looks, and a bunch of swirls, some bigger than others. Waist deep water for the most part. Water still quite warm at the top of the tide. Setting up the rest of my tackle tomorrow for the fall run. Be well!

Interesting that even blues start with the small swirls, lots of looks, in September skinny water, just like the stripers up here. Now I got to start thinking of why, but maybe it's the tiny bait, peanuts and rain bait, that get them leery of larger offerings???
