Some Bass Didn't Listen To Their Mom When Told Not To Play With Their Food...

Had a good morning yesterday, but caught my 20 - 26" stripers in a spot 300 yds from the Keepah Motherlode, so I was determined to be the first in at "The Spot" this AM, since multiple characters claimed they'd be out there too.

Fired up the Yammie at 05:15, which is about the earliest I can get through the lobster pot minefield by the little bit of available, natural light, and was at the spot at 05:45, thrilled to realize no one else was there. I was also pleased in that the timing was perfect, as there was just the right amount of daylight to use a popper. After a dozen casts I was spitting bullets, as every cast was met by fish that either followed the plug and throwing up a wake, or fish casually swirling around the plug without making contact, nor actually trying to hit it. Don't these fish know you're not supposed to play with your food??

At 06:00 the odd fish decided to actually hit the plug every 4 or 5 casts, so fish started coming over the rails, but the biggest fish were still screwing with my head, hitting short or just tail-slapping the plug back at me. I calmed myself down, asked for Poseidon's intersession, and I tallied two keepahs, 28 & 29", along with 5 other fish from 22 - 26", before things shut off at 06:45.
