Managed three large snappers and proceeded to liveline them for two hours, losing one but never feeling a hit. Disappointed, started to paddle homeward and trailed the snapper popper (just in case, but thinking I would at least bring home three for the limit, lol.) slightest of hits and reeled in a 5 inch snapper. Thought, why not, and paddled back 200 yards to "my spot" and voila, still another weakfish came home but this 18"er is destined for the freezer as we are concerned we will start growing fins. Got a contractor doing stuff all next week here so am going to be in hiatus for a while unless I get out Sunday morning. East wind but I think my two hours of paddling to stay in place were caused by the snappers simply being too big for the average summer weak, and I haven't even managed a short fluke in the last two weeks on the yak. (I did pull in a another good sized snapper for the limit of three on the way back up the creek.) Keep thinking I need to try for kingfish and blowfish off the boat but this kayak fishing is just so addictive.

@pequa1 It's actually a good sign they're sticking around. Although I would eat it fresh 🙂I hear you about fresh being best, but we have been eating SO much fish this summer. Its usually just the two of us and that was the 29th weak I have taken home, along with 8 fluke (the last of which a "just 19") was caught in June. We are actually eating bluefish tomorrow night, caught Monday, cooked in the oven with lite mayo and italian bread crumbs.
With our vacuum sealer we have found that weaks and fluke freeze best, sometimes indistinguishable from fresh, snappers a close second, but sometimes blues and even bass are better fertilizing the gardens. Gotta remember I usually have to kill my catch in the driveway since they get dragged behind the yak on a stringer.
Yet my butcher only uses butcher wrap and a plastic ziplock on our venison and (although it is "fast froze" by him and picked up by me with an ice chest) sometimes it gets lost in the freezer for up to three years and still tastes great with almost zero freezer burn.

So I would have to use my boat LOL !? Maybe they will swim north? For now if I can occasionally catch a smaller snapper i am lovin’ my luck with the weaks. Unfortunately having work done here so probably won’t be able to fish at all next week. Incidentally paddle boarders told me this morning of seeing many rays along the houses?
