So, my BIL is participating in the Tri State Canyon Shootout this weekend, leaving from Shinnecock this morning at around 10 to head for Block Island on a 61 Viking. The importance of this is that earlier in the week he said "I did not buy that skiff to sit at the dock....use it!" Both of my children had plans so after chores, I asked my wife if she wanted to go out for a short trip in Moriches. Well, the answer was a positive "yes" as long as she could just grab some rays and enjoy the scenery! She is not too interested in the fishing, but after raising two children to college age, we are spending much more time together no matter the venue. So off we go, (although the tide was not exactly what I wanted) but heck, better than sitting home looking for more chores! 🙂 Out going water was zipping at a faster clip because of the moon, and that thick green cabbage was a bit much. Finally, the current slowed, so let's try something different. Ended up realizing that EVERYTHING likes gulp. The variety was fluke, sea robins, bluefish, blackfish, and porgy! Moved around to a few spots based on memory (and good catches) and not the actual condition at hand, and found sporadic shorts, etc. Whatever, still a great day on the water and especially with my wife. She wants to go more, so I will hold her to that.
On another front, woke up at 3 this morning, went to load the truck for a solo outing and did not like the weather, especially the wind. So back to bed for some rest, maybe later if the conditions get better. Enjoy and be safe.
