I've participated in Midcoast Maine Dawn Whack A Mole Tournament the last 2 days. Yesterday I started too early, hitting the water at 04:00, only to discover that the game didn't start until 05:15. Today I hit the boat at 05:10 just as the sun was coming up, and was greeted with multiple feeding striper pods as soon as I turned the corner into the harbor. Got bored after an hour and 7 fish and headed back to the barn.

Good Morning from the Roccus Dock...

Also did my bi-monthly inshore cod C&R scouting run yesterday afternoon as the water was totally flat. Back in May I discovered two new humps just outside the bay and wanted to see if there were cod on it. Got out there and I was delighted to see the sounder light up with cod ready to jump on our jigs. They were eating well as I unhooked them they were tossing up macks, cunners, squid and herring. My distinguished colleague and I caught around a dozen, with 4 of them > 21", definite keepers come mid-September.

Small macks were thick on these humps, too bad I'm not a bait drowner, they were real striper candy-sized. Ocean fauna very plentiful. Besides the usual suspects like seals and harbor porpoises, we saw a Minke Whale at a distance, some Wilson's Storm Petrels, and the season's first Mola Mola. Lovely to get out on the briny...

Feel free, thanks for the compliment...

Dawn on the easternmost coast....

Not quite, my sunrise in my hometown today is 5:09 while Lubec and Eastport, the most "Downeast" towns, is 04:55...

That reminds me, I need to get saddled up for this morning's trip to the Boardwalk and my Whack A Bass game...

Don't forget to tell them that Twilight is 04:35 and Nautical twilight is 03:51 and Astronomical twilight is 02:57 Just so they won't think your going out there in the dark. ๐Ÿ˜Š Nothing is more beautiful than Dawn to Sunrise on the ocean.

You need to borrow my skiff and back off about 20 yards and take that same pic. with your boat in the foreground.
