Got out early this morning for the outgoing, out of mattituck inlet, not much of a S/W & a flat Long Island Sound. I didn't give it the whole tide, just the first 4hrs, & made drops in every spot I have marked in the area. Tally for the effort was one 20" sea bass, that's it one hit, one fish, don't know what happened, but turning out to be a disappointing sea bass season so far.

I was out 3 days in a row last week opening day thru Friday and it was lights out with nice sized fish.
I just got my boat back in the slip today a few minutes ago just before the rain.
I'm heading out 1st chance I can the next couple of days but not thrilled about the holiday weekend insanity
I'll report back to you 👍

Last week I blamed the full moon tides but I got out yesterday on the quarter phase and the Sea Bass action was still very slow. My normally reliable drops north of Plum held only a few shorts. Central Sound not any better. Finally ran across to a favorite drop on the CT side and while I did manage my 3 fish limit of only 16" fish the bite was way off. Most of the action took place on the start of the flood. I was marking more fish than last week but never saw Sea Bass so picky.

If I recall, last season started out slow as well but kept building nicely throughout the summer. What is really strange is all my friends on the South shore, west to east, are slamming them, as reported and reinforced by Chinacat.
I sure hope it improves soon as I have several charters lined up in the coming weeks looking for Sea Bass.
