Took advantage of a short break in the relentless wind we have been dealing with this fall. Went through Plum Gut, at the right time & tide, not a single boat striper fishing, made 6 or 8 drifts just to keep it honest with no results, then headed west in the sound looking for blackfish. Found a good looking piece of bottom & set the spot lock, one stop fishing. No sea monsters for me, but iced a limit of solid keepers to 19" culled from numerous shorts. Suprise of the morning was a small striper, I guess about 20" on a blackfish jig, safely released. By now the predicted south west wind came up & made for a slow ride home. With the ever present wind next week & some medical stuff I have coming up, possibly my last trip.

Nice way to end the season if it was your last trip.

I'm jealous as I was supposed to run a charter today and last night my customer tells me he thought he was fishing with me next Saturday and was on his way to Vegas!?
So, not wanting to burn a lot of fuel and sailing solo I headed back into the bay and sorted through about 50 smalls to put three 16-17" fish in the box. At least I managed a fresh dinner for me and the wife.
Except for maybe a brief window Monday the forecast for the rest of this week does look evil. The rescheduling is getting ridiculous.
