Hello Ny Anglers!

I finally found the time to splash my boat yesterday. I left around 2pm and ran outside the Nissequogue. I saw about 1/2 dozen boats drifting a popular edge outside the river. I started looking for signs of bait, non of which I could find. So I began my trial and error on different depths. I found a small patch of fish the produced 15 fish with most between 12-15 inches and two 20-inch keepers. I was in 21-23 feet temps were 56 surface. All of my fish were caught with a bucktail and teaser. All took gulp spearing. The other plus was the birds didn't touch them. This is looking similar to last year so if you're looking for keepers now is the time. You will need to make short drifts as soon as you find them. If you're just drifting along for long stretches you're pretty much wasting your time.

@Leprechaun Check out this great outfit I used!

George - that's an Avnet Reel - correct? How do you like it? I have one on a rod Captain Neil built for me. I really like it.

Actually that's a custom built reel and rod and reel designed by @Leprechaun

@Leprechaun I was finally able to get that feel with this set up. I’m thinking it's is because of the 20 foot depths. Thanks Lep, its an eye opener and I hooked every fish that sniffed it.

Thanks Mike. The lack of any visible bait is just like last year. I was getting birds on the gulp mullets but as soon as I switched to the gulp sand eels the fluke started hitting.

For those of you that need to get back into the Nissequogue be forewarned that there is very little water wHen headed towards the marina. Last year was a disaster and this year is worse. I retuned with 3 yours remain on incoming and found 1 foot of water coming back.

They really need to address this. I'm fishing there for 40 years and I've never seen it this bad. I'm sure with the states new marina they will fix it but it needs to be done now.
