According to Newsday, and with no spot burning:
"The former first mate of North Star, which operated fishing charters out of Captree Boat Basin, admitted in federal court Tuesday to helping to deliberately sink the vessel in off Long Island’s coast in 2018.
The guilty plea of Thomas Jordan, 57, of Brentwood, followed an indictment last year charging him and the vessel’s owner with crimes that included destroying North Star, conspiring to do so and lying to Coast Guard investigators about it.
Jordan and vessel owner Timothy Juettner, 53, allegedly sank the fishing vessel because it needed major repairs Juettner couldn’t afford, sources previously told Newsday.
On Oct. 8, 2018, the vessel went down in the Atlantic Ocean within 12 nautical miles of the coast, according to the 2020 indictment.
The ex-first mate told Magistrate Judge A. Kathleen Tomlinson on Tuesday while pleading guilty to one count of the indictment that he and another defendant worked together to destroy the vessel and he was at the scene when it sank.
The crime also involved using a second vessel as a towing aid, according to Jordan's admissions. He later declined to comment after leaving the Central Islip courtroom."

What a shame..the old north star from city island!!! A WORK HORSEWe lived in the Bronx and I went on the North Star a lot as a kid. City Island was our version of Knapp St so to speak, but obviously on a lesser scale . The Apache was there too and the Ebb Tide later on . I’m sure I forgot a few more . That’s a shame, many fond memories on the North Star.

I can't remember the names of the two brothers that were the mates. Do you remember them?

Mackerel fishing in the late 70's was off the hook.
Boats from Sheepshead Bay would make the run up the east river to fish the western sound.
My dad and I used small tins and freshwater rods, loosened the drag, and those big Macks would take off like a tuna.
Too bad it never came back.

Mackerel fishing in the late 70's was off the hook.I am thinking optimistically but we may see a comeback with the Macks. it seems there is no shortage of them up north - which might mean their migration pattern changed and they've been bypassing our area. there was a short run of mackerel in the sound this season and this fall we had some along the beach that the bass were feeding on. they were the "Boston" (Atlantic) Macks that we all came to love in the 70's' not the bigger, large eyed ones that we've been seeing every summer over last few years. lets hope that the few Bostons we saw this year lead to a resurgence and that CRAZY spring fishery returns
