So I did my shotgun hunt out on the Island, nice crisp morning found a nice area and sat up against a tree after a few hours of seeing one squirrel ? was time to do some Spot walking after I pinged my truck to see I was over a mile from it and not even a tail I said I had enough time to pack up the gear, I am grateful to have shot a Doe the last day of rifle season, didn’t here one shot after checking back in at DEC I asked them how the day Was as of 2.30 no deer were checked in Till next season all be safe

I finally realized that on my treasured nuisance permit I see a deer about once every 8 trips. I harvest venison about once every ten trips. Your first photo shows a lot more openness than the thick bramble, oak and pine I hunt in. Manorville ?

Not a hunter, but just curious. What kind of range does a 12 gauge deer slug have?

Most slugs are good at a 100+ yds

But not quite as accurate as a rifle and of course unless one gets a slug gun you are stuck with the lousy trigger "squeeze" of a shotgun. Offhand I can hit a pie plate at 100 yards with my AR every shot. Would be lucky to do the same with my Mossberg 500 at just 50 yards. (I haven't quite figured out how to shoot "bench rest" at Bambi, lol.)

I haven’t done a lot of shotgun hunting when I first started deer hunting it was shotgun only where we were, I hunt upstate mostly and never want to give up on my lever action.35 great gun and a deer in brush is in trouble with that gun I have several different guns 30.06 etc...... but still end up with my .35 when it’s time to go in the woods

I have a Marlin "Texan" 35 Remmy, but never did get upstate to hunt with a rifle. Started hunting after I retired from the reserves, and was already in my early 50s. Haven't done the bow thing yet either but I have the equipment. Some day. (Especially if the nuisance permit keeps getting worse !)
