My Ugly Stik that is many years old finally broke a guide. I got it on sale at Dicks for like $25. I always liked Ugly Stiks as I take kids young fishing. They tend to be a bit tough on rods, stepping on them, jamming them, etc.
Where can I go to get guides replaced at a reasonable cost? Does it just pay to buy another rod on sale?

Unless you've got a friend that can wrap guides, or you plan on doing it yourself, as far as I know, most shops get around $20/guide for just the labor. Sometimes its cheaper to go ahead replace the entire rod.

They have their very own unique guide design.
Guides were created. The newly designed one-piece,
stamped stainless steel guides provide maximum
durability and no insert pop-outs.
If you can't happen to find the guide.
You can replace it with a different guide.
It's cosmetic more than anything.

start with a tiny piece of electrical tape to hold it in place and get some thread used to make your own bucktails. apply some quick dry clear nail polish as you go. its an UGLY stick !I agree. If its for people that will be rough with it do it yourself. It won't look pretty but it will work.

Bring it to your local tackle shop and give them the business. New rod? Repair? Whatever .It's been a rough year. Believe me Dicks dosen't need your money as much as the little tackle shop around the corner. Happy new year and stay well!

That is a good point Robert Upton. Being a piker, I usually just automatically try to fix things, (and I do paint and bucktail my own unpainted lead jigs and teasers.) Tackle shops often sell better rods than the big box stores and for a price that is often competitive. The kayak in my avatar is not carried by big box stores but by kayak shops. The Perception tandem my bride and I paddle was the same price at Amityville's The Dinghy Shop as it was at West Marine and the dicks at DicksSG.
