I have used a GLoomis E6x Inshore 7' MH, Black Hole CB 701L that I built, and a North Fork SW768-1 that I also built. All have performed very well. So far I have handled 8# fish on both the loomis and BH without any issues. Just built the NFC, but based on late fluke season it should be a big winner as well. I fish NJ, so take that into account, but there are a lot of guys using M/MH freshwater or inshore rods with great success as well.

Less than 300 bux? Sure, how about a Tsunami Evict 2000/3000, with either a Daiwa Proteus M or MH, Or a Harrier slow pitch MH? The Proteus will cause an over-ring of maybe $25, but is a very nice stick.
If you can still find a Shimano Trevala S in MH, though discontinued, it is also a very sweet piece indeed.
Love my little Evict 2000 to death. A truly great mid-priced reel, with all stainless steel internals.

New IT&T Board Feature - Hands-on Tackle Reviews 2019-21
Hi all, so as I mentioned on the "Reels" board earlier today, we are gonna be starting up a tackle review feature on this forum. George and I think this has the potential to help a lot of guys with their rod/reel and tackle selection - what works well together and what doesn't. What we are...

Thanks everyone , I have a reel already. 3000 Penn clash that I love. Just want a rod. I'm leaning towards the 6'6" Maxel jigging rod. Or possibly Thinking about the grappler. Is the grappler worth the extra $$$$
Lep I have the Harrier now and want something a little better. I fished a friends Proteus and not sure I liked it. Felt awkward to me.

The little Grappler Type J I use is a serious upgrade from a Harrier. Its only my opinion, but I feel its well worth what Shimano is asking. Nothing awkward about it. Not to me. You should go look at it. Bring your reel.

Sounds like a great choice. Just be aware that the Type J Grapplers are not slow pitch rods. That would be the “SJ” series of Grapplers. The Type J’s are faster than the SJ’s. Like a Nexus, I believe.
