This was caught on a recent partyboat trip in the eastern sound. Anyone ever see one before or have an ID?

Wow, they are really fast too!

Many years ago, while in college and living in South Florida, I had a terrarium set up on our back porch. Inside were my 2 pet frogs and a small painted turtle. Whenever I would come home with some extra earthworms after a fishing trip I would throw them in the tank as a special treat for my pets. What was really amazing was when it came to eating the live worms the supposedly slow moving turtle would beat the frogs to the food every time!!!

Ichthyology is the branch of zoology devoted to the study of fish,
including bony fish, cartilaginous fish, and jawless fish. According
to FishBase, 33,400 species of fish had been described as of October
2016, with approximately 250 new species described each year.

I have a bright idea.

Ichthyophthirius
multifiliis is one of the few fish parasites with cilia surrounding the entire organism
The free-swimming infective ciliated theronts are usually pear-shaped, actively motile, and about
30–45 ΞΌm in diameter.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ichthyophthirius_multifiliis
How do you treat ichthyophthirius Multifiliis?

Treatment

  1. Raise water temperature.
  2. Medicate for 10–14 days.
  3. Reduce medication when treating scaleless fish.
  4. Discontinue carbon filtration during treatment.
  5. Perform water changes between treatments

Copper is an old but effective treatment for fish diseases.
It is now primarily used to treat acute intestations of parasites
such as Amyloodinium and Cryptocaryon. Many fish are
sensitive to copper and may become intoxicated at concentrations
required to control pathogens.

Quarantining is mandatory!

Immediately kills invertebrates - filter feeders - dissolves low level waste.
