Ammo Shortage

This is the worst I've seen.
I'm on a few online notification lists when ammo is in stock and stuff is selling out within minutes.
It's insane.
I have a pretty good stockpile but I've pretty much shut down my range visits for now until this passes.
Anybody else curtailing range time?

I hear ya....but I love shooting my revolvers and the only place for me to do that is the range.
I'm guessing (hoping) things will ease up after the election.

I’m not sure where you are but I am so limited in my ability to buy in NY it’s insane. The few local spots are sold out. Went up to Basspro in CT last weekend and I took a stroll through the ammo section to see what their inventory looks like. I can’t actually buy any of it but I was just curious. Slim pickings left up there. They maybe had 20-30 rifles and shotguns left up there also. Mostly higher end type stuff. I think on top of everything else the manufacturing shutdown due to COVID seriously limited and slowed output. Hence the situation we are in now.

I am sure that all these new gun owners joined the NRA and intend to vote for politicos who support the 2A. Yeah, right.
I stocked up on ammo for 10 different calibers pre-Obummer and with my involvement in other hobbies (archery, deer hunting, kayaking, surfcasting, etc.) I don't shoot much anymore, maybe going to the Mitchel Field Range a few times a year now, and once or twice to Calverton. Keep thinking I should sell some more off but like that lotto commercial goes, "Ya Never Know."

Some guy is selling 525 round bricks of 22LR over on LIGC for $85 bucks, and people are snatching it up!
It's insane I tell ya. We had this before and it settled down....I'm pretty sure this too will pass.

Picked up some 12ga Federal 00 buck today locally. Almost $9 for a box of 5. Whatever....

I guess its for home defense ( killing home invaders) since its illegal to use buck shot for deer in NY and many other states. But $9. for a box of five !! I usually buy five Remington copper premium sabot slugs for just $15 if not less.

Yes for home defense. They were out of rifled slugs but that’s a bit too much I think in a potential indoor situation will go right though bodies and walls etc... not that 00 at 1325 FPS couldn’t do that as well

At close range, a hollow point slug designed for maximum mushrooming might not penetrate any further than one of those little lead ball bearings. On my nuisance permit I recovered a slug that I used to take down an 8 pointer with a shot up its left hindquarter as it hightailed away. (Would not do something so unethical except on a nuisance permit.) Found it in the gut about 12 or 14 inches in and it had expanded to more than twice its diameter. And one still has to aim a shotgun. I prefer to use my nine or .45 if I ever have to. Handgun is much better for CQB. No one is grabbing that barrel !

Fortunately I stocked up on Black Friday in 2018 at Dicks, which I hate giving any business to, but they had plenty. It seems they only keep them in the fall as I had tried to order them earlier that year. I usually just verify my being sighted in each year with one of those laser lights in a fake cartridge, aiming out the back door at a neighbor's chimney, so any I shoot are at deer.

Laser lights in a fake cartridge for 12ga slugs?
