If it wasn't for that tell tale black spot, I would've said croaker

Wader and I caught a bunch of them this morning along Speckled trout an small Stripers. Eastern Shore of Virginia. They also call them puppy drum.

OP asked for a fish ID. I had forgotten the name Channel Bass and had never heard Puppy Drum before so I learned something.

Very happy that Larry (@wader) went out and caught, ergo the "Like", but not relevant to this thread. The VA boys should ask George for Virginia to show up on the list of states for reports. I had to do it for Maine and was quickly accommodated.

So I just should have referred to the name "puppy drum" and not mentioned that we had just caught a few in Virginia as well ??

Never said that, what you wrote was fine and appropriate, that's why I gave it a "Like".

I'm looking forward to many future fishing reports from down South in the report section that we can have discussions about. I wasn't about to go OT and request info about how you caught them in a thread that just asked for an ID.
