I may be misinterpreting but pump action is manual. Semi auto just needs the first round chambered. For pump the standbys are Mossberg 500 and Remington 870. Oodles of accessories for either. For semi-auto, someone else will hopefully chime in- I don't use them.

870, it's an iconic and great gun. I've had to use mine to help me get out of thigh deep mud in Mt. Sinai. Took her home, stripped her and cleaned her and never had a problem. I'm skeptical that any automatic would be able to do that.

Ive used mine to row and push my duck boat out of mud many times lol

Winchester Model 12 for me. Countless trips duck hunting in the 80's. Pheasant hunts in the 90's. Shot my first turkey with it 8 years ago. Never paddled with it or buried it in the mud ...... 😎

Dont own one so cant comment it a tactical shotgun that appears to shoot only 3in shells my 870 express magnum will shoot 2 3/4 3in and 3/12 in shells both mine are more for hunting of course lol

20 is lighter, shorter barrel and easier to swing. If personal protection is the goal the 12 holds more pellets per shell and with a shortened barrel would be my choice along with semi auto rather than pump.

IMHO I would go with a 410 for home protection lighter smaller and will show the same result up close and personal
