Ran a half day inshore charter on Wednesday afternoon with the Bob family and I was a little concerned that right after the Tropical Storm the local Porgy population might be a bit traumatized. Thankfully, as soon as the chum took hold the fish followed quickly with a solid 3 hours of action. Typical small to medium summer Bay Scup with a few jumbos mixed in were on the menu plus a few Kingfish and some puffers. I tried to mix things up at the close of the trip with a quick hour at Jessups neck but the Bluefish population did seem a little more skittish following the blow as we could only fool one 5# fish on a diamond jig.

Yesterday I made a solo trip to the Sound to gather some intel for my upcoming weekend charters and some fresh Sea Bass for dinner. Action was a little bity spotty, perhaps still due to some lingering water clarity issues, but I managed to find my 3 keepers with a real nice one hitting almost 4#. Just in case anyone doesn’t know why Sea Bass taste so good, check out the photo of the stomach contents of the top fish…a fully formed baby lobster! I was tempted to swallow him whole myself!!!

Looking forward with great anticipation to this Sunday’s Montauk Fluke trip. There is still one spot open for this charter so give me a call if you want to hop aboard.

Capt. Mike

I can't get over that lobster. Maybe that's where they're all going 🙂

Cleaned a few, the end of June & found what was left of tiny lobster tail, & a small mantis shrimp.

When I find an intact mantis shrimp, it goes right into my freezer for the next trip.
Last time I used one, I dropped it down and in about 20 seconds I had an 8.8 lb fluke.

You are so right, TJD and I feel like such a jerk. I should have stuck it right in the freezer for the next trip.
Fishing for over 60 years and I make a rookie mistake like that! Which senior related issue can I blame...CRS, senior moment, over the hill, etc. I hope I awake from my coma in time for tomorrow's trip.😴

Mike,
Next time you'll save 'em for your next trip.
Hope it brings you a keeper to remember
