We all have come across Ocean Sun Fish swimming the waters around Long Island & points North & South. They look like big beautiful, slow swimming, defenseless creatures. My question is, over the last how many thousands of years they have been swimming the same waters as sharks, why haven't sharks wiped them out.

I would assume they're pretty vile tasting.
Secondhand story, but a guy I know's father caught one and decided he wanted it mounted. A real conversation starter I guess. He said it took months to stop dripping oil and the room it was in had a fishy stink for years.
