I’m looking to trailer my boat out like I do twice a year but the restaurant by the ferry that I use the ramp is closed since new owners took over. Can any one please help out for a ramp out in orient point that I can launch my boat out of. Thanks and tight lines

That's a tough one, all of the Southold town ramps are for residents only, no non resident permits this year. Port of Egypt and Brick Cove Marina both have ramps for $50 per launch. Port of Egypt is offering a one month launch permit for $250. The only other public ramp that I know of is the DEC ramp in Mattituck, you will have about a 23 or 25 mile ride to Plum Gut. Their is a DEC ramp at Trumans Beach on the sound, it is a cement ramp down to the waters edge, with no dock or any kind of breakwater, in my opinion not much good for anything larger than a 16' tin boat, if any kind of wave action comes up while you are out, it could be an adventure to say the least getting back on the trailer. You will be launching & retrieving in the wide open Long Island Sound.

I think there is one in greenport. I dropped I. There 2 years ago. It was a public beach forgot the name sorry. Still a bit of a distance from Orient but not that bad.

Most likely you’re thinking of Manhasset Beach. It’s residents only and you risk a ticket launching there.....

Yes but I think it was only 20 bucks for non resident. It was not that much.

The town of Southold is not offering any non resident passes this year, using covid as the reason, if you use that ramp without a town of Southold resident permit, you WILL get a $75 ticket.

Major suckage with Orient By The Sea out of the mix. I used to use Truman's beach, but as noted here, it's not a very friendly place. Once on a flounder excursion launched from Truman's, the wind unexpectedly blew up from out of the NW and there was no way to retrieve the boat safely at Truman's.
When it was quitting time, I high tailed it through Plum Gut and unloaded one of my buds off on the bay side of Truman's with the car keys. He met us at that Manhasset Avenue ramp. It was 40 years ago and out of season so no issues. Always nice to have that redundancy...

That was a good spring flounder spot "back in the day".

I was fishing further east and didn't want to pay Orient By The Sea to use the ramp, being a poor graduate student.
Where I was fishing we caught in both Spring and Fall!!! Beautiful, nice fat flatties, and now it's only a memory of for us "of age"...

From two Northfork brothers, Southold has really ratcheted things down even further thanks to COVID. Even if you park in a legal spot, e.g. friend's driveway, if they see you on a Southold town beach and you cannot prove you're a Southold resident, they can ticket you. And catch this, the town constables are required to make 3 sweeps per shift of the parking areas and beaches!!!
It's all a matter of cash flow. No non-resident permits sold this year, so let's get those funds flowing from the non-residents anyway!

In the past a non resident could go to Southold town hall with a resident & get a guest pass for $35 good for the launch ramps & beach parking for the year. That ended about four years ago, & for the following year their was no non resident pass of any kind. Then in 2019 a non resident could get a permit, ONLY good for parking & the launch ramp at E. Klipp Park just east of Greenport, that permit was more $$$ than I like to admit, but I used it over 25 times. This year, 2020, that same permit was available again, which I got again, & before I had a chance to use it, the town board made all non resident permits invalid die to Covid. Took over 6 weeks of phone calls, town hall was closed, but a refund was issued. Even folks who rented for the summer had no parking or beach permits this year. The year that no permits were issued, I used the ramp mid week in November, black fishing, one other car in the lot & I got a $75 ticket in November, so they are serious.

Don’t you speak of that evil John!! My fingers are crossed they will
Well since I can’t trailer out there this year another spot I wanted to fish and heard was good was the middle ground by Stratford Shol Ligthouse. I trailer to oyster bay and wasn’t really looking for a 2 hr boat ride to get there. Does anyone know any good ramps that would at least cut down my ride on the water atleast by half Thanks
