I have been having a hell of a time trying to work with my waypoints from my Lowrance and getting them transferred over to my new Humminbird. I have downloaded and made a back up from the Lowrance in the past. Just seems like things have gotten more complex. I might be just me.

Got to be careful on this. Can't respond for Lowrance, but Garmin has the following stipulations.

SD card cannot be greater than 32 GB. Nowadays in the world of 256 GB micro SD cards, 32 GBs are babies.

File system MUST be FAT or FAT32. Some of the newer cards use NTFS or another file system. Always a good idea to reformat a card you want to use in a GPS and NOT do a quick format.
SD card size is 2 gig, formatted the card first ...... still stuck.

I have a Lowrance hds5 gen 1. I was able to finally download some data in .gpx format by doing this:

1. Hit pages and selected settings Icon.

2. Selected files.

3.Selected waypoints.

4. Selected GPX.

5. Selected SD card.

6. Hit the menu button, ok was selected, hit enter.

Ended up with a gpx file that I can't view. Installed and uninstalled several "readers" that sucked.

Geez, I wish i could help you Cappy John but that's what happens when you buy all that new stuff that some 19 year old designed. Go find a kid down the street like the Kitner kid that use to help me with my computer. Any kid, even if they have never seen a plotter will be able to figure it out in 15 minutes or less. (Not a joke). But funny. 😊

Sorry, I'm out of tricks beyond that. I'm thinking you're in for a major challenge bouncing between companies, did not catch that.

Is there a computer program that both can read? For example Garmin has "Homeport" which you can download your user data from a unit to that and then upload anything you do on Homeport back to any compliant Garmin.

I found this link. Hope it helps...

Transferring Lowrance to Humminbird

I hadn't seen that when I was searching for help ........ It certainly was the most uplifting of all the ones I was looking at.

While on hold with Humminbird, I reformatted 2 different cards (16gb) and transferred the .gpx files that I downloaded from the Lowrance. Still on hold, I went out to the boat and tried the first card. No good. Did the same thing as before. Wouldn't recognize the card. Popped the second in and a message came up on the screen, "Encrypt new sd card". I clicked on it and the card appeared on the screen. Hit the "import data" and it started downloading. I hung up on the customer support hold. Seems like it's taking an awfully long time to download. Hope I didn't mess something up.

After 30 minutes of the downloading message flashing I hit cancel. Checked the chart and son of a B , my waypoints were there !!!

Snags I ran into:

1. To download the data off of the Lowrance, a dedicated folder had to be added to the fresh SD card first.

2. The new Solix does not need the .gpx files converted by HumminbirdPC program on your pc.

3. Must have had a bad sd card or two, need to try different cards.

Glad that's done !

Check them for accuracy

once upon a time I played with trying to move waypoints from different units
Garmin to Northstar and when they showed up the were all off the mark

I was just told recently that some are hard to do some easier
North Star to simrad easy
Northstar to Garmin hard to impossible

I’m not up on hummingbird v lorance
Never touch them

You give these kids to much credit, where do you think they learn how to be tech savvy, youtube and google, believe me I know, I use to monitor these so called tech wizards using a program called lan school, whenever a kid tried to hack the pc they were using or our network we would shut them down, the first thing they do is google how to hack your school network.
The resources are there, you just need to know how to use them.

Capt13, sorry you had so much trouble with uploading your data, I had to do just the opposite, hummingbird to lowrance
I just followed the instructions from both, sometimes those micro SD cards get corrupted very easy, I have a micro USB card reader on my pc, it came with the Hummingbird, I uploaded the info to my pc and then back down to a smaller micro card, had no problems.
