Sunday found my long time regulars, the Sal party, along with “Celebrity Chef Nader” on board for our first Montauk Fluke run of the season. Most of my intel pointed to a very erratic bite and unfortunately that turned out to be the case Fluke wise. Despite hitting many of my best drops all over the south side of the point we could only find 4 short Fluke. Plenty of big-name charters and a few party boats also in the area and didn’t see a net move almost the entire day!
On the bright side, the Sea Bass fishing was outstanding not just quantity but some real quality as well. Easily filled out a limit catch with at least 5 of the fish running between 4-5.5#, some super-sized biscuits to be sure. So, ultimately the rods were bending all day and the crew went home with nice bags of Sea Bass filet, along with a smattering of Ling, which most will agree both taste better than Fluke anyway. So, we will have to wait until next time to find the trophy’s but we did our best to make lemonade out of yesterday’s lemons.
Next two weekends I am booked Sunday, Monday but both Saturdays’ are open, if you like to sign up for the next adventure.
