Hi. For years I would wade into the ocean barefooted to fish without a thought. I guess I got more concerned about this in recent years. The thought of stepping on a rusted hook or a used hypodermic needle changed my thinking. Has anyone had any experience with a short surf boot that works well keeping the sand out and protecting your feet. I would appreciate any help or recommendations.

Well let me tell ya barefoot, had a 2 inch gash onda foot some time ago, 10 stitches needed... fractured a bone in foot at a another time, too... had Sea Robin dorsal go through my boot on my budget waders... In other words, I’ll go barefoot ? when water temps permit... cellfish...

Once upon a time i did scuba I purchased two types of scuba boots both ankle length 1.) with a zipper and 2.) one that you pulled on -they kept you warm and the neoprene was impervious to shells/rocks/hooks/ gary.

Once the water temp approaches 60 I just wear sandals on the beach or yak. if the outside air is much colder than that I wear Sealskinz socks with them. (different kind of sock Ol Mud !)

Hi. I was thinking that dive boots might be the way to go. Users indicate that they are good at keeping water and sand out. Thanks for the info

Broken clam shells are no fun either. Anything to protect your feet is fine. I'm sporting those cheap beach slippers that are sold everywhere.
