So I finished the day with a limit of fluke. None under 20- inches were kept. I caught a few more that were keeper size. During slack I noticed some birds diving and found schoolie bass and cocktail blues near Short Beach. I saw bass on top and caught one right away then I changed to my Savage sand eels only to have it bitten off by bluefish. I hate when that happens! So I switch to a popper and had bass and blues for about 1/2 an hour.
So far this has season sure has been a pleasant surprise!

George, Hoping you can tell me the bait type or color of Gulp if used. I am catching fish five or six miles west of you but mostly all shorts. thanks
regards Holty
In our area I've found that 4 inch gulp mullet on as lite a bucktail as possible work best. I'm using white gulp on a white 1 oz bucktail with 1/2 ounce white teaser. I look for bait near a dip or a break and when I catch a fish I mark it, and keep drifting a bit. I then position the boat to drift over the mark. It's all about shorts drifts for me.
Successful fluke fishing is all about shorts drifts and using your electronics. No long drifts. I hope it helps.
