It appears there's a big sign stating "KEEP OFF JETTY" and they are actively enforcing it. I'm sure it has to do with the unfortunate incident a couple weeks ago but this lack of access sucks.

Yep that's exactly what I'm talking about.

A few weeks back unfortunately someone fell off the jetty while fishing during a storm and drowned

That could be but the incident that I recall had a guy get his 3 ounce sinker hung up and in freeing it the thing hit him in the back of the head.
