Just got notification from DEC regarding commercial harvest :

Effective Friday, November 1, 2019, the daily trip limit for bluefish is increased to 10,000 pounds. This trip limit will remain in effect until further notice.

If this makes sense, could somebody explain it to me ?

Ah my friend, you need to "make your mind right" in Fisheries Management terms. For some reason they expect commercial quotas to be met, because they set the numbers on their "best available science". Therefore in their deluded minds, if commercial quotas are in danger of NOT being met, they increase the trip limits so they WILL be met!!

It never occurs to them that the reason for quotas not being met could possibly because they set them too high, screaming that the fishery cannot support the quota and they should cut the quotas back!!

I didn't see this and I just posted above. This was all part of the plan from the start. While NMFS pushes us to Catch and Release, what they don't tell you is that all of the bluefish you release get added to the commercial quota each and every year.

Well you can see by your last sentence why didn't try to explain. 😛

George has it right BUT, it still doesn't make sense.

Oh and catchy phrase "make your mind right" . 😊
