With the spring flounder and blackfish season opening on April fools day,is anyone taking bets on which of the two species will be in greater abundance in April?Flounder are becoming an endangered species and the spring blackfish joke is in effect another year.I dont think the flounder population will ever recover ,even a little, to its glory days.Blackfishing in the spring ,however, is a way the law makers try to pacify us while making it hard to get a meal in the fall. Im surprised there werent even any meetings for new proposals regarding these fish.

Being a betting man, I would like to bet Flounder but would have to go with Blackfish.

There are both around if you know where and when to fish for them. I know you know where I’m talking about Pete. We’ll get a few weeks tops and then that totally dies out. It’s really sad and unfortunate that future generations may not have a clue about the good old days. My best trip to the local flounder grounds was 6 with one being over 2.5lbs.

Sadly after so many trips in the 70s and early 80s with dozens of flounder taken regularly, I don't even put the bay boat in the water until fluke season now.
